Some starters till I get back to this:

A story I told for years:

THE WISE OLD BULL
Two bulls were standing on a hill, overlooking a herd of heifers below.
The young bull says, "Hey, why don't we run down there and make love to one of those heifers?"
The old, wise bull shakes his head and says, "Nah, why don't we walk down there and make love to all of them?"

THE MESSAGE: Be an old bull ... the earlier, the better. Measure your options and actions ... don't rush in for the sake of making a decision. Think first ... then be deliberate!

And, when confronted with a should I or shouldn't I decision, if there is a question about it ... don't do it. Or, at least put it off until you have had adequate time for evaluation.

And if you write a letter (email whatever) that is nasty, confrontational or otherwise questionable ... sleep on it overnight. Amazing how much one's perspective changes after a good night's sleep.

GOOD ADVICE:
As I think about myself as an old bull, I find myself mentally playing back the database that is my life. Tending to be a bit on the expansive side (Some call me a dreamer), I look at the 2008 election and go back to what led us to this place in history.

Of course, George W. Bush is at fault for everything ... the weather, the wars (WE were attacked, remember?), global warming (Sunspots have nothing to do with it, right?) and so on. Well, for the most part, I have defended my President, but there are two areas where he could have done much, much better:

1). FACE OFF WITH HIS ACCUSERS -- Methinks Dubya should have taken many of his critics to the woodshed. He could have spent more time in the present rather than pondering his historical legacy some 50-100 years in the future. Who cares? He and we will all be gone then. So what is the point.

2). DELIVER ON CAMPAIGN PROMISES -- A new tax system, he promised. The President was all for abolishing America's Gestapo in waiting until some sixth century mentally-challenged loony toons decided it was a good idea to hijack airplanes and fly them into landmark buildings. Shortly afterward, he got the guy whose bright idea that was. Of course, the liberals think we have not been nice to him. Go figure! We are still seeking the guy that financed the venture.

Some folks claim the President took his eye off the ball. The ball I was most interested in beating the hell out of is the IRS, but George W. Bush thought it best to take his clubs to another course ... fighting terrorism ON THEIR TURF USING OUR RULES. Well, I sure hope that Dubya gets the chance to, in Jesse Jackson parlance, "Cut off his nuts" ... the nuts of Osama of course, not Obama ... yet!

My worst fear is that if Obama is elected president, the Chicago crowd that Obama runs with will call for a pardon of Osama. Kind of like what Clinton did with Marc Rich. Rich according to Time Magazine:"In 1983, financier Rich was indicted for evading more than $48 million in taxes, and charged with 51 counts of tax fraud, as well as running illegal oil deals with Iran during the 1979-1980 hostage crisis.
During his last week in office, President Bill Clinton pardoned Rich, who had fled the U.S. during his prosecution and was residing in Switzerland. Seems to me that that black kid, Wesley Snipes, only tried to stiff the feds for what $17 million or so, while Rich stiffed EVERYDODY. Maybe President Bush can pardon Snipes and cozy up to the black folks ... nah, they wouldn't appreciate it and would continue to vote 90% plus for the Democratic Party no matter who ran. Even Osama! So what's the point.

Which brings me back to taxes. We need a new system. President Bush once thought so, but when he left to play on another field, he should have handed the IRS ball off to Cheney, Rumsfeld, hell, even O. J. Simpson. Simpson isn't in jail for murder. Whose to think even the IRS could nail him with their dirtiest of tricks. Simpson is like nailing jello to a tree. He might just be the one to carry the ball once again.
